Student from 15-18 years learns those skills and Behaviours which are necessary for a particular vocation. It is an important phase of training between functional academics (School Education Programme) to vocational (work) Programme. They acquire pre-requisite skills required for the vocational training e.g. for Masala grinding , a child learns filling, sorting , number concept , weighing concept , identification of Masalas etc.
Children of 11 to 14 years of age group from mild to moderate category are admitted in secondary group for teaching and training in various skills like reading, writing, number, money, time and social skills. They participate in various curricular and co curricular activities like music, dance, yoga gym and sports.
Training the students with severe and profound intellectual disabilities in four sections of Care Group-A,B,C,D. These children need custodial care with IQ range 20-34. The students are trained in activities of daily living like toileting, social, dressing, grooming, eating communication and recreational. Most of them have speech deficits, Behaviour problems and multiple disabilities so regular therapies are being provide to them.
Primary section consist of children between 7-10 years. Children are taught and trained in the areas of personal, social, functional academics, language and recreational which includes toileting, eating, dressing and grooming skills, reading, writing and concepts of number, time and money. It is imparted using interactive board, overhead projector and computer
Children diagnosed with Autism associated with Intellectual Disability. As Autism core deficits areas are communication, socialization and rigidity in thinking, so these children are basically trained primarily on communication skills to improve their socialization skills/activities which leads to flexibility in thinking.
For the enhancement of Inclusive Education , a school readiness Programme is going on in GRIID for children from 3 to 7 years of age. For this section, curriculum of general school has been modified and is being taught to students to prepare and train them in pre-requisite skills required for inclusive set up. Till now 40 students have been enrolled in general schools from this section.
Age range from 3 to 6 years having moderate to severe Intellectual disability. Focus area: The overall development and training of the children through Play way method.
IT section is established in the GRIID to cater the needs of institution regarding information technology and impart IT skills to students and staff. All official IT related matters of the institution like: information to the public, parents, Govt. and other institutions are regulated from this section. Website of the GRIID is also operated and updated from the same section. This section also imparts the training to children with intellectual disabilities regarding basic computer skills to improve their professional cum vocational skills. They learn basics of computer with MS office programs, desktop application, search engine and Identification, Recognition of various hardware devices.It also improves their quality of life in routine.
Yoga is a path to holistic development. School students of GRIID are trained in yogic practices such as asanas, pranayama, kriyas, mudras, bandhas and taught yogic principles as per their scheduled time-table. It helps to improve their health, develop overall personality and create happiness. Students are prepared in yoga dance demonstrations to perform in various functions.They participate in the celebrations of International Day of Yoga-21st June. Students also participate in yogasana competition and win prizes. Research activities are also carried out in the field of yoga.
Programmes such as aerobics, treadmill, twister, cross trainer cycling , sit up sessions are available in gym. Weight reduction programme, cardiovascular endurance, increase flexibility and physical strength and development of physical and mental health are the focussing areas. Research activity is also carried out at GRIID. Students are given gym classes as per their scheduled time-table.
Participating in individual and team games, giving knowledge of skills, development of agility, endurance, flexibility , balance and eye-hand co-ordination are the focussing areas of developent. Students participate in various tournaments of Special Olympics. GRIID organises National Sports Meet for Persons with Intellectual Disabiltiest to encourage the talent of sports in these children.
Dance is a natural form of expression of feelings in a person. Students learn to dance according to their special ability and interest. Students are taught different forms of dance like giddha, bhangra, folk, patriotic, saraswati vandana and action songs. Moreover, students with more ability learn dance to participate in various competitions as well as to perform on several occasions like Diwali, Holi, Teacher’s Day , Children’s Day ,lohri and many more . Students give solo as well as group performances. They come to dance class as per their scheduled time-table.
Students are taught both vocal and instrumental music. They come to learn music as per their scheduled time-table. Students who are able to sing are taught various forms of singing like classical music , composition songs , devotional songs, shabads, ghazals, folk , patriotic songs etc. Students learn to play various instruments according to their special ability and interest. They are taught instruments like congo, bongo, dholak, dhol , tabla, duff, banjaree, harmonium, keyboard, flute, patti-tarang, miracus, etc. They perform in various functions orgainised by Chandigarh Administration.
